New Delhi — : The Prime Minister Narendra Modi will make a significant stop in Kanpur on May 30, with a two-hour visit that includes high-level inaugurations and an emotional meeting with the family of Shubham Dwivedi, who was killed in the Pahalgam terror attack. Authorities have resumed extensive preparations based on the original itinerary planned for April 24, which was postponed due to the tragic incident in Jammu and Kashmir.
Family of Terror Attack Victim to Meet PM Modi
The most emotionally charged moment of this visit is expected to be Prime Minister Modi’s interaction with the family of Shubham Dwivedi, a resident of Raghuveer Nagar, Hathipur. Dwivedi was martyred during a brutal terrorist assault in Pahalgam. His family, including his wife Eshanya, parents Sanjay and Seema, and siblings, are set to meet the Prime Minister. MP Ramesh Awasthi, who formally requested the meeting, emphasized that this moment of recognition would provide much-needed strength and solace to the grieving family. His letter to the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) expressed the family’s pride and sacrifice, reinforcing how such recognition from the nation’s leader would serve as a moral boost for them and the wider community.
Potential Metro Tour Addition to the PM’s Itinerary
While the earlier April 24 itinerary did not include a metro station visit, this time the Nayaganj to Rawatpur metro stretch may become part of the tour. According to the current schedule, PM Modi is expected to arrive at Chakeri Airport by 2:40 PM, proceed to CSA ground by helicopter at 3:05 PM, and start addressing the public gathering by 3:15 PM. The speech is expected to last for an hour, after which he will return to the airport at 4:50 PM and leave the city at 4:55 PM. However, officials remain on standby for last-minute adjustments from the PMO, especially considering SPG (Special Protection Group) security reviews are still ongoing.
High-Value Development Projects Worth Over ₹20,000 Crore
As part of the visit, PM Modi will inaugurate and lay foundation stones for 11 mega infrastructure projects totaling ₹20,656 crore. These include the Kanpur Metro, a new power plant, a hospital in South Kanpur, and other developmental initiatives aimed at boosting regional connectivity, healthcare, and energy supply. The projects are expected to generate both short-term jobs and long-term growth, addressing key developmental gaps in the region. Additional schemes could be announced on the spot, adding more weight to the Prime Minister’s address.
CSA Ground Set for Major Public Gathering
Preparations at CSA Ground, the venue for PM Modi’s public address, are advancing rapidly. A massive pandal is being redecorated, seating arrangements reorganized, and high-level surveillance set in place. The event is expected to draw a massive crowd, with tight security and strict protocols being enforced by local administration and the SPG.
District Officials Reassigned for Visit Management
Kanpur’s top administrative team has been reactivated for this high-profile event. District Magistrate Jitendra Pratap Singh has reissued responsibilities to key officers, including Chief Development Officer Diksha Jain, Chief Medical Officer Dr. Haridutt Nemi, ADM City Dr. Rajesh Kumar, and others. Specialized teams from departments such as Social Welfare, Youth Welfare, Education, and Panchayati Raj are also mobilized. Additionally, SDMs from Ghatampur, Bilhaur, Narwal, and Sadar tehsils will supervise area-specific arrangements to ensure seamless coordination.
Public Anticipation and Symbolic Importance
The visit carries profound symbolism, blending development with emotional outreach. While project inaugurations will underline India’s growth trajectory, the acknowledgment of a terror martyr’s family reinforces Modi’s commitment to honoring national sacrifice. This dual-tone itinerary not only strengthens Modi’s connection with the grassroots but also draws attention to both national security and infrastructure advancement.
