Defense Cooperation Reaches New Heights
A key outcome of the visit was the expansion of defense cooperation between the two countries.
India and Indonesia welcomed progress on cooperation involving the BrahMos supersonic cruise missile system and an air-to-air missile collaboration, strengthening bilateral defense ties amid evolving security dynamics in the Indo-Pacific region.
The leaders reaffirmed their commitment to enhancing military cooperation, defense technology partnerships, and strategic coordination as maritime neighbors sharing common regional interests.
Maritime Security Takes Center Stage

- Marine pollution control
Both governments said stronger maritime collaboration would contribute to peace, security, stability, and freedom of navigation across the Indo-Pacific.

Historic Visit to Prambanan Temple
Before leaving Indonesia, Prime Minister Modi visited the nearly 1,000-year-old Prambanan Temple Complex, a UNESCO World Heritage Site located in Yogyakarta.
Alongside President Prabowo, he inaugurated the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI)-led Prambanan Temple Restoration Project, reinforcing India’s commitment to preserving shared cultural heritage in Southeast Asia.
The project follows earlier Indian efforts to document Indonesia’s Borobudur Temple Complex and reflects the growing cultural dimension of bilateral cooperation.
PM Modi Reflects on His Spiritual Journey
Addressing the gathering at the temple complex, Prime Minister Modi spoke about his long-standing connection with Lord Shiva and India’s sacred heritage.
He said he considered himself fortunate to have been associated with several major temple restoration and redevelopment projects throughout his public life.
The Prime Minister recalled his birthplace, Vadnagar, home to the revered Hatkeshwar Mahadev Temple, and noted that Gujarat is also home to the Somnath Jyotirlinga, one of Hinduism’s holiest shrines.
He also referred to his association with Kashi Vishwanath, as well as the redevelopment of Kedarnath Dham and Mahakal Temple in Ujjain, describing the opportunity to participate in the restoration of the Prambanan Temple as another significant milestone.
“I consider myself extremely fortunate to contribute to the restoration of a cultural heritage site that preserves memories associated with Lord Brahma, Lord Vishnu, and Lord Shiva,” the Prime Minister said.
Economic and Strategic Partnership Strengthened
The agreements signed during the visit aim to accelerate the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between India and Indonesia.
Key areas of cooperation include:
- Defense and security
- Maritime cooperation
- Digital infrastructure
- Trade and investment
- Healthcare
- Critical minerals
- Food security
- Digital payments
- Emerging technologies
Officials from both countries said the expanded partnership reflects their shared vision of a stable, prosperous, and rules-based Indo-Pacific.

The Australian leg of the visit is expected to focus on high-level bilateral discussions covering defense cooperation, trade, regional security, technology, and strategic collaboration within the Indo-Pacific framework.
