In this incident that took place in Bengaluru, a Ganesh idol was temporarily taken over by the police in protest against stone pelting during the Ganesh immersion procession.

PM Modi alleged that the whole country is celebrating Ganesh Utsav today and the Congress is disrupting it. Today’s Congress is not the same old Congress. What happened to the Ganpati idol in Karnataka?
The Ganesh idol controversy started when a group of devotees tried to stage a protest against the allegations of stone pelting on the Ganesh idol immersion procession in Nagamangal taluk. The protest was organised by the Bengaluru Metropolitan Ganesh Utsav Samiti and the police initially refused to allow it.
During the protest, a three-star inspector was seen putting the Ganesh idol in a police van. He was placing the idol in the van which is used to detain protesters. The move caught media attention. Seeing the protest, the police quickly shifted the idol to a police jeep and took the protesters into custody.
Stone pelting escalates dispute in Nagamangal
On September 12, a fight broke out between two groups in Nagamangal during the Ganesh idol immersion procession. According to the police, when the Ganesh idol procession of devotees from Badarikoppalu village reached a place of worship, some anti-social elements started pelting stones, which worsened the situation. The violence led to damage to shops and vehicles and several people, including two policemen, were injured. The police have so far arrested 52 persons and imposed prohibitory orders to control the situation. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah condemned the violence and said the state government was taking it seriously. ( PLC & GT )
