Filmmaker-actor Rishab Shetty’s magnum opus Kantara Chapter 1 has crossed a stunning ₹844 crore worldwide, cementing its place as one of India’s biggest cultural and box office triumphs of the decade.
The prequel to 2022’s breakout hit Kantara continues to draw packed houses across India and overseas, driven by word-of-mouth, strong regional storytelling, and deep spiritual symbolism rooted in Tulunadu’s folklore.
“This success belongs entirely to the audience — to every devotee of Daiva and every cinema lover who believed in our story,” said Rishab Shetty in a heartfelt post on X (formerly Twitter).
A Cinematic & Cultural Milestone
Produced by Hombale Films, Kantara Chapter 1 explores the origins of divine justice and human faith, combining mythology with striking visuals and traditional music. The film’s success reinforces the power of regional cinema in shaping India’s global cinematic identity.
Trade analysts note that the film’s spiritual undertones and rooted storytelling resonated deeply with audiences beyond language and geography.

Box Office & Streaming Impact
According to box office trackers, the film’s ₹844 crore gross includes over ₹710 crore from India and ₹134 crore from international markets, with strong performance in the UAE, US, and Europe.
Streaming rights have been snapped up by a major OTT platform, with the digital premiere expected in late December 2025, ensuring continued visibility into the festive season.
