Mumbai  : The Civil aviation company IndiGo has ordered 30 wide-body A350-900 aircraft from European aircraft manufacturer Airbus. This order could be worth 4 to 5 billion dollars. To meet the increasing demand for air travel in the country, domestic aviation companies have placed 4 big orders for purchasing aircraft since last year. Tata’s Air India group had placed orders for 470 aircraft in February 2023. It had ordered 250 aircraft to Airbus and 220 aircraft to American company Boeing.

IndiGo had ordered 500 A320neo aircraft from Airbus in June 2023, the world’s largest aircraft order. New aviation company Akasa Air had ordered 150 B737 Max aircraft from Boeing in January 2024. The specialty of today’s order is that IndiGo is purchasing wide body aircraft for the first time. It already has two wide-body B777 aircraft in its fleet but they are leased from Turkish Airlines. The airline said that the exact appearance of these aircraft will be decided later.

It is expected that the aircraft will start arriving from 2027. IndiGo also has the right to purchase 70 Airbus A350 aircraft with certain conditions. Their orders will be placed as per future requirements. Wide-body aircraft have larger fuel tanks and engines than narrow-body aircraft. Therefore these aircraft can be used in long distance flights.
