Dengue Alert in Delhi-NCR: Union Health Minister Reviews Preparedness, Issues Fresh Guidelines

Dengue Alert in Delhi-NCR: High-Level Review Meeting Held

Union Health Minister Jagat Prakash Nadda chaired a high-level review meeting on Monday, urging Delhi and neighboring states to strengthen measures against mosquito-borne diseases like dengue.

Following the recent rainfall and receding Yamuna water levels, the Central Government has put Delhi-NCR on alert. The minister stressed that hospitals must be fully prepared at the earliest to deal with a possible surge in cases.

Key Highlights of the Meeting

  • Delhi Health Minister Dr. Pankaj Kumar Singh, Union Health Secretary Punya Salila Srivastava, mayors of Delhi and Ghaziabad, and senior officials from Uttar Pradesh and Haryana participated.

  • Head doctors from central hospitals in Delhi were also present.

  • Encouragingly, 47% fewer dengue cases have been reported compared to 2024.

Government Directives to States

The Health Minister instructed states to:

  • Intensify mosquito control activities across Delhi and NCR districts.

  • Strengthen surveillance and case reporting systems.

  • Keep rapid response teams active and ready.

  • Conduct regular fogging and source reduction campaigns.

  • Carry out door-to-door larva surveys.

  • Ensure immediate reporting of dengue patients.

Municipal bodies in Delhi, Gurugram, Faridabad, Ghaziabad, and Noida have been told to take aggressive preventive action.

Why This Matters

The prolonged rainy season has caused waterlogging in several parts of Delhi-NCR, creating a breeding ground for mosquitoes. The Health Ministry’s proactive measures aim to reduce the risk of a large outbreak this year.
