New Delhi — : Weather patterns over Delhi-NCR are shifting as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issues an alert for thunderstorms and light rain. After days of rising temperatures, residents of the capital and surrounding areas like Noida, Ghaziabad, and Gurugram may finally get relief from the scorching heat on Wednesday, May 28.
According to the latest IMD forecast, a light drizzle accompanied by gusty winds is likely to hit parts of Delhi and adjoining NCR regions. The weather department suggests these pre-monsoon showers may temporarily bring down temperatures, offering some respite from the heatwave-like conditions experienced earlier this month.
Weather experts are attributing the expected rain to active western disturbances and changes in wind patterns over North India. Skies are expected to remain partly cloudy throughout the day, with a noticeable dip in maximum temperatures.
Northern states including Uttar Pradesh are also under IMD’s thunderstorm radar. Areas such as Lucknow, Kanpur, and Meerut could witness gusty winds and patchy rainfall. People are advised to stay indoors during the storm alert window and avoid open areas.
The IMD bulletin also hints that this brief weather relief could pave the way for early monsoon activity in several northern pockets. Delhiites are hoping the shift marks the end of extreme summer conditions for the season.
