Amazon, the renowned multinational technology company, has recently made an exciting announcement regarding its cloud service, Amazon Web Service (AWS). In line with the surging demand for cloud services in India, the company has unveiled its ambitious investment plan. Amazon plans to invest a staggering $12.7 billion (equivalent to approximately Rs 1,05,600 crore) in cloud infrastructure in India by the year 2030. This substantial investment is set to transform the cloud computing landscape in the country and fuel economic growth.
What is Amazon Web Service (AWS)?
Amazon Web Service (AWS) is a comprehensive cloud computing platform offered by Amazon. It provides a diverse range of services that serve as the foundational building blocks for creating and deploying various applications in the cloud. These services include storage, compute power, databases, networking, artificial intelligence, machine learning, and more. AWS offers scalability, reliability, security, and flexibility, making it a preferred choice for businesses of all sizes across industries.
The Power of Amazon’s Investment: New Job Opportunities
Beyond the transformative impact on India’s cloud infrastructure, Amazon’s investment plan will also generate a multitude of job opportunities. By investing in data center infrastructure, Amazon will create a significant number of new jobs throughout the country. It is estimated that this investment will result in the creation of approximately 1,31,700 full-time equivalent jobs annually in India. These employment opportunities will span various sectors, including construction, facility maintenance, engineering, telecommunications, and other related fields.
Two Data Center Infrastructure in India: Expanding AWS Footprint
Amazon already operates two data center infrastructure facilities in India, namely the AWS Asia Pacific Mumbai Region and the recently launched AWS Asia Pacific Hyderabad Region. The AWS Asia Pacific Mumbai Region was established back in 2016 and has been instrumental in catering to the growing demand for cloud services in the region. Over the years, Amazon has invested more than 30,900 crores in the AWS Asia Pacific Mumbai Region between 2016 and 2022, reinforcing its commitment to bolstering India’s digital infrastructure.
This significant investment has resulted in the creation of approximately 39,500 full-time equivalent jobs annually in India, further contributing to the country’s employment landscape. The AWS Asia Pacific Mumbai Region serves as a testament to Amazon’s dedication to providing cutting-edge cloud services and nurturing the digital ecosystem in India.
