
China has extended a $5 billion (approximately ₹43,000 crore) economic and military package to Pakistan, further strengthening their bilateral ties. This package includes advanced military hardware, infrastructure investments, and economic assistance.
Delivery of Second Hangor-Class Submarine
As part of this deal, China has delivered the second Hangor-class submarine to Pakistan. The submarine was launched in Wuhan, China, and is expected to enhance Pakistan’s naval capabilities in the Arabian Sea and the Indian Ocean.

China and Pakistan have a deal for eight Hangor-class submarines. With the second submarine now delivered, the remaining six are expected to be handed over in the coming years. This agreement is part of broader military cooperation between the two countries.
Apart from submarines, China has also supplied fighter jets, drones, missile systems, and armored vehicles to Pakistan under various defense agreements.
China’s Investments in Pakistan Through CPEC
China continues to invest heavily in Pakistan through the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC). This includes infrastructure, energy, and transportation projects aimed at boosting Pakistan’s economy.
Major Areas of Investment:
- Gwadar Port Expansion, a key part of the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI).
- Energy Projects, including power plants to address Pakistan’s electricity shortages.
- Highways and Railways to improve connectivity between China and Pakistan.

China’s Role in Pakistan’s Arms Imports
Between 2019 and 2023, 81% of Pakistan’s arms imports came from China, marking a 74% increase compared to the previous five years. Reports indicate that China’s share in Pakistan’s total arms imports now stands at 63%, amounting to approximately $5.3 billion.
Growing Strategic and Military Cooperation
China and Pakistan continue to deepen their defense and economic ties. With the ongoing delivery of submarines and other military equipment, as well as major investments in infrastructure, the relationship between the two countries is expanding across multiple sectors.
