HQ Western Command Chandimandir displayed Army Equipment and Military Pipe Band at Sector 17, Chandigarh today. Students of Rashtriya Military School, Chail (HP) and other schools of Chandigarh attended the display with the youth enjoying the T-90 Tank ride and the Bofors Gun ignited the minds of all. The sappers exhibited the Bridge Laying Tank with full span, laying the bridge within three minutes only.  The students of Gurukul Global conveyed their Best Wishes to Maj Gen RG Krishnan, a senior officer of Western Command for troops of the Indian Army deployed in forward areas. In all, more than 1000 people witnessed the event.Next Equipment Display will be held at Dussehra Ground Phase 8 Mohali on Nov 26 2012 Monday from 9am to 1pm.
Chandimandir based Headquarters Western Command is organizing a youth programme to reach out to students and youth to increase their awareness about the Armed Forces. Displays are being conducted as a part of the programme “know your Army ”  Western Command is also carrying forward this “Youth: Out Reach Programme” in the form of motivational talks and interaction in school and colleges by Army Officers who are highly decorated and have achieved notable landmarks in operations, adventure and sports.
These initiatives are aimed at exposing the youth to the way of Army Life and motivating them to choose the defence forces as a career. This will also wean them away from societal ills which may lead them astray.
