Even mountainous areas are not immune to the heatwave’s impact. In Kashmir, temperatures have soared to unprecedented levels, with Qazigund recording 43 degrees Celsius. Similarly, Bhaderwah in the Jammu division registered its highest May temperature in 23 years. Despite their elevated altitude, mountainous regions are experiencing temperatures well above normal, underscoring the severity of the heatwave.
IMD Forecast: Continued Heatwave
The IMD forecasts that the heatwave will persist until May 29 in many parts of Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, and Rajasthan. Additionally, some areas of Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Chhattisgarh, and Maharashtra will also experience extreme heat during this period. However, there is a glimmer of hope for certain northeastern states, including West Bengal, Assam, and Meghalaya, as Cyclone Remal in the Bay of Bengal may bring much-needed relief in the form of rain and cooler temperatures.
