Chandigarh :  There has been a lot of ruckus in the political parties of Punjab regarding the opposition Grand Alliance India (India) against the NDA. Since the Punjab Congress has clarified its stand on the Grand Alliance, it has said that even though the Congress and the Aam Aadmi Party have joined hands as part of the Grand Alliance against the NDA .

The Congress will not have any alliance with the AAP in Punjab. Congress leaders say that the party whose government has put 5 former ministers including their former Deputy Chief Minister in jail, how is the alliance with them? At the same time, the Shiromani Akali Dal and the BJP have targeted the Congress for joining the opposition alliance with AAP. He said that Congress and AAP have entered into an agreement and the oldest party should now be called the government party in Punjab.

The SAD wrote a letter to the Speaker of the Punjab Assembly saying that the seats of the Congress members should be transferred to the ruling party. The Akali Dal has termed the AAP-Congress opposition alliance as an ‘unholy marriage’. However, Punjab Congress President Amarinder Singh Raja Warding said that the Congress has always fought to protect constitutional values and save democracy. He said that we are still the main opposition party in Punjab and we will continue to fight against the AAP government on public issues. Raja Wading said that there can be no compromise with the party whose government filed false cases against our five former ministers and sent them to jail.

Congress leader Pratap Singh Bajwa said that they have already informed the party’s central leadership about the stand of the party cadre and leaders in Punjab.

Significantly, AAP had agreed to come to Bengaluru for the meeting of opposition parties in Delhi only after the Congress gave its support to the ordinance on control of administrative services in Delhi. Bajwa, when asked about the possibility of an alliance with AAP, said the state unit will not join hands with AAP and has informed the party leadership in Delhi about its decision.

Meanwhile, SAD leader Bikram Singh Majithia said that the erstwhile Congress in Punjab is now officially a branch of AAP. That’s why they are part of the government. Majithia had earlier termed the agreement between the two parties as an unholy marriage. State President of BJP Sunil Jakhar also told Congress as the government party and said that Congress is no longer in the opposition. ( PLC/GT )
