The Ministry of External Affairs has said that 45 Indian citizens illegally sent to the Russia-Ukraine war front have been safely rescued and freed from the Russian army. The spokesperson of the Ministry of External Affairs said that 50 Indian citizens are still present in the war zone and efforts are being made to evacuate them as well. He said that the ministry is constantly working to ensure the release and safe return of these Indian citizens.
During the recent visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Moscow, Russian President Vladimir Putin had assured that all Indian citizens wrongly recruited in Russia would be removed from the war front and freed. After this visit of Prime Minister Modi, now the release of Indians illegally recruited in the Russian army has started.
Russia has admitted that some Indian citizens were recruited in the army by misleading and sent to the war zone. After the continuous efforts of the Government of India in this direction, they are now being freed. The Ministry of External Affairs has also said that all possible efforts are being made to evacuate all Indian citizens who are currently in the war zone as soon as possible.
